Phone Therapy
Although my home is Alaska, I work with people in other places over the
phone and through free computer based video-conferencing. Phone
counseling is an effective and powerful way of meeting. This is because
the form of therapy that I use relies on the client focusing inside and
becoming his or her own therapist. In other forms of therapy it might
be more important for the client to actually see the therapist.
Admittedly, when phone therapy is done without live streaming video in
conjunction, I miss out on important data: your non-verbal facial
expressions and body language. However, I've found that my intuition
and our verbal communication compensates for the loss of the visual
data. Most people are pleasantly surprised to experience how well phone
therapy works.
There are some limitations to distance therapy which require me to not
work over the phone with people who are actively suicidal or have a
history of chronic suicidal ideation, planning, or attempts. If you
have a history of suicide its important to see a therapist in person. I
also don't work over the phone with people who have a history of
violence or are dependent to drugs and/or alcohol.
Prior to meeting by phone I require all potential clients to complete a
questionnaire that helps me to determine if phone therapy will be
helpful. One final note about phone therapy is that I will place the
call to you so that you don't have to pay the phone bill. If you'd like
more information about how phone therapy works, feel free to contact
me.
He who has a why can endure any how.
